The latest trend in the dating world is ‘online dating’. It saves you from spending an hour to decide what to wear on your date or the rushed visit to the beauty parlor. It is generally safe but with the introduction of so many sites out there safety is very important. It is important to be on your guard in the initial stages of dating while you are testing your luck with people you wish to date. With online dating you can take as long as you want getting to know and trust someone via clandestine messaging. You can take your dating as slow as possible and there is no pressure to reveal any personal information unless you wish too. If you are interested in joining an online dating site then refer to the following guidelines.

• Do not include any personal information in your profile, e.g. your home address, workplace address, email address or telephone number. All reputed dating sites make safety very important so that their members can be part of a safe online dating environment and any personal information given in your profile will automatically be deleted.

• Take your time getting to know someone online before revealing any personal information about yourself and before arranging to meet him or her. Make best use of the facilities provided to you.

• Don't lie in your profile or fake your photograph. If you are genuinely looking to met someone interesting then it is important that you remain honest in your profile. So just be yourself.

• It is a good idea to set up a free email account. This way you do not have use your main personal email address if at all you wish to stop messaging a member. It can be useful even if you decide to discontinue from your membership of that site.   

• Never be too trusting of anybody. Always be on your guard. Do not give away personal details to anybody even if you have the slightest amount of doubt in your mind about them. 

• Be a member of a well known dating site ONLY. Make sure they have a good privacy policy and if not look for some other site which does. Read their procedures and how to contact them in case something goes wrong.

• If someone is making you feel uncomfortable stop emailing him or her. Again, most reputable dating sites provide facilities for you to instantly block messages from a member who becomes a nuisance.
