What's Skype...
I just recently moved from San Francisco California to Montreal Canada. This move was so quick I had no time to really adjust or prepare for the move. I am only out here for two months and my cellular service Roams in this location which is unfortunate because I miss home. I don't want to sign up for a new cellular service or increase the charges for only two months on my existing one and I remembered about this service online called Skype. Skype lets you make free calls to anyone else on Skype, anywhere in the world using your computer.

Downloading Skype... A few simple steps to downloading: - go here: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/macosx/downloading.html and click on the icon [downlaod] to begin.
- A download browser box should appear with a Skype icon. Click on the icon. Continue when asked: "Are you sure you want to continue downloading.."
- Another Skype box should appear and will ask you to drag the Skype icon to your application folder.
- With that same Skype icon, drag it to your "dock" to add the application straight to your quick clicks.
- Click on the program and begin the sign-up/application process.
- Both parties must have this application before they can begin. Share and enjoy free talks with friends and family.

Using Skype... The way it works for free is both you and your contacts have to
download this program, which only takes a few minutes, all must have a
working microphone embedded into their computer or a headset will be
sufficient. Also, if you have video capabilities on your computer you can video chat for free. The communication is only as strong as your internet connection, make sure your connection is strong or else it can be a frustrating exerience. With this free program, it only works if the other party is on same time you're on. Unless, unless you cop-out for the service charge. This is where they charge a minimum amount to you for a service that allows you to contact landlines, but that's a whole other sevice in it-self. I love this application/program, it keeps me connected to my friends and family without having to pay for roaming charges on my phone. I can stay in touch for birthdays, special occasion or the taken-for-granted HELLO.

When I was in South America recently I used the SkypeOut feature to pay to call regular phone numbers back in the US. 2.5 cents / minute certainly beat the $2 / minute rates of my cell phone company and the hotel. I used my laptop's built in mic and people on the other end said it sounded fine. I still have plenty of money left on my account, so I'll probably start using it to call my brother in Japan. Yeah, I signed up for it and fiddled with it for a bit but I can't say I fully understand how to use it. There are Jaxtr points, different numbers to call, emails- It's a a lot more complicated than Skype, I think. Have you tried it? Reply...
