The Internet can be a self-serving place when it comes to being kind. One can always tend to view the Internet as a huge bargain basement or antigue sale and until he or she finally figures out what in the world they are possibly looking for. Pre-Internet folks like me who quickly caught on with technology but did not leave their manners in the lavender still find it hard to 'talk' to a computer screen. Personally, I still haven't mastered the art of skyping and other long-distance communciation features that facilitates speaking across long distances and seven time zones.

But that shouldn't stop random acts of kindness either. There are so many professional networks like 'linkedin' and feature professional networking tools on virtually all email servers that it is hard to really think too much in terms of the personal. But it is necessary. Just as we aim for a simple more balanced life, we should also strive for a more balanced approach in our virtual connections. And it's never too late to perform a good deed.

Blogging is by far the best way to feel a sense of community spirit, even if it is of the virtual knd. There are all kinds of people in need of a good intentional word, a happy message, an important thought. Suddenly the word penetrates beyond the screen and the mouse and one click leads to another click and voila: it's addictive!

Here are a few more creative ways to spend a few random acts of kindness on the Internet. Have you used any? Can you suggest others?

1. Sending an e-card. Jacquie Lawson has the most beautiful cards on the web I've ever seen but the sign up price is well worth it. There are dozens of free sites. Just google 'free e-cards.'

2. Commenting on another person's blog, post, email, whatever.

3. Paypal a donation to a site that you have benefited like job leads.

4. Light a candle for a friend in need at gratefulness.org.

Happy Monday!
