There are a lot of myths about how to have clear skin. The tricks aren't always what is intuitive, but absolutely work.

Keep it clean, gently. Don't use harsh soaps on your face! They will dry out your skin. Don't scrub harshly! This can irritate the skin and make acne worse. Use cleansers that don't contain soaps, like SpectroGel or Cetaphil. Wash twice a day.

Moisturize and protect. Use a moisturizer that's gentle and also contains at least an SPF 15 -365 days of the year! Even on a cloudy day, UV rays are shining on your face, damaging your skin, wearing it down and aging it. In the winter, a lot of people neglect to put on sunscreen -bad call! Snow reflects tons of UV rays that can damage your face.

Go easy on the make up. Use products that are oil free and noncomedogenic. Never ever ever sleep with your make-up on! Use a gentle cleanser to remove eye make-up. Don't rub harshly.

Do not touch your face! Picking pimples can actually push the push deeper into your skin, making acne worse and causing scarring. Your hands are oily and dirty -don't put them near your face!

Other things to avoid: Don't let hair products (shampoo, hairspray, gel) touch your face. They clog pores and can cause allergic reactions, both of which can result in acne. Wash your pillowcases frequently to avoid getting old oils on your face.

If possible, see a dermatologist! For cases of severe acne, antibiotics like tetracyclin or cures like Accutane can prescribed. Often, simple prescription creams like Differin can really improve the appearance of skin. Conditions like psoriasis and eczema can also be diagnosed by a professional and treated.
