Starting your own website can be a daunting task. So much is involved in the process that it may seem overwhelming. However, these are the top ten keys to starting your own website to ensure its success.
1) Pick A Niche A lot of new websites don't make it because they try to bite off more than they can chew. Instead, narrow your focus and pick a niche that you can master.
2) Learn HTML You can pay someone to build your website. However even if you do, it's best to learn basic HTML in case something goes wrong and you need to fix it ASAP.
3) Keep The Design Simple When you are starting off, it's best to keep the design simple. You can build it up eventually but don't think you have to have an elaborate site right away.
4) Be Smart About Ads You don't want to have a new website that is flooded with advertisements that will put off readers. Be smart about if and where you place your ads.
5) Stay Attentive Look for what works and what doesn't work. Be prepared and open to change in midstream. If your website isn't progressing as planned after six months, narrow your scope or make changes. 6) Keep It Updated Nothing is worse than an outdated website. Keep the content on your site as updated as possible. If you have a blog or news section on your site, it's best to update it daily. 7) Keep An Eye On Your Competitors See what works for them and see how you can also make it work for you. Also take note of what you don't like about other websites. You can also learn from their mistakes. 8) Answer Email Promptly If someone contacts you about your website, answer quickly and courteously. This will help build your reputation. Also use social networking sites to get the word out about your website. 9) Set Goals Don't start out trying to be a millionaire. Set realistic goals that you can attain one at a time.
10) Remain Patient It takes a while to build up a successful website. Don't give up if you don't see immediate results.

Have patience when starting your own website.
