If you have any cooks or foodies on your list this holiday, I've got some terrific gift ideas.

Artisanal olive oil:

Everyone is intrigued by quality olive oil. People advise about pressings, how to host tastings and artisanal oils are all the rage. Here are two producers that I have gone back to again and again. Their products are wonderful and novice as well as experienced cooks will be thrilled with a gift from either:

Pasolivo in Paso Robles, California - this family farm grows and presses seven heirloom varieties of olives along with meyer lemon, lime, and tangerine. Consistent award winners, these are terrific.

Olivas de Oro - also in Paso Robles, produces organic olive oils from old trees. They also press with meyer lemon, as well as rosemary and garlic. Look for distinctive cobalt blue gift bottles.

Snacks:

How about gourmet popcorn or chips? Cookies that rock and a company that supports the community, too?

Dale and Thomas Popcorn - never mind that Oprah likes it, this is good. Terrific flavors, gift selections, who wouldn't flip for this?

Route 11 Potato Chips - when chili-heads recognize their Mama Zuma's Revenge Habanero Chips you know they're the real deal. Check out the Dill Pickle flavor.

For the person on your list with a sweet tooth, you've got to check out this artisanal gelato. Capogiro is truly divine.

Dancing Deer Cookies - made here in Boston. Sugar cane lime, molasses clove, and more. Award-winning cookies and cakes, year after year. Their Sweet Home collection will support homeless women and children, too.
