ping 127.1.1.1

to make sure that your IP address works (1)go to start-->run-->then  for newer machines type cmd-->enter (2) in the program type,  ping 127.1.1.1, you sould then get 4 replies and a packets sent=4, packets received=4 ( ping is the code that tells your computer to communicate with other computers, in this case, your computer is just talking to its self(3)-->if you didn't get any reply then something is wrong with your ip address and you need to consult a computer nerd/geek ( like your local best buy geeksquad)
