A popular question on GirlsAskGuys is, "Why do guys ask for my number but never call?"
I expected guys to anonymously and unanimously report that they never meant to call and were only obtaining the number for bragging rights among their friends. I’m happy to say that I was wrong! Below are the most common answers.
To the guys; Have you ever asked for a girls number, gotten it, and then never given her a call or a message? If yes, why?
“If I didn't have a cell phone with me I might write it down then lose it, and be pissed. Of if I felt the connection wasn't that great I wouldn't waste my time calling. Nowadays I think if you are going to ask for a number you should call it, otherwise you just wasted your time (and hers) talking to her. Some guys are shy or don't know what to say for good phone conversation. Dealing with women and being the initiator and often the leader of interactions can be a difficult skill to learn.”
“I've done this a few times, gotten the girls number and never called. Usually I'm drunk and making a worse decision. I don't call because I either don't remember or am afraid of what I've said in my drunken state to want to deal with it for the call. Lesson: if you're dealing with a drunk guy, make sure your guy remembers you or don't expect him to call you.”
“I think it's simple; if you get the number you should call. Otherwise, why get it? Plus, it's kind of rude not to call. Seems kind of like making a date, then not showing up. I do agree though, it can make you extremely nervous doing it. I guess you should never get a girl's number if you don't think you can follow through.”
“I've gotten a number before. Then I made the stupid decision to drink a lot more. I then made a stupider move and pulled out the number to show it to my friend. When I woke up from my drunken sleep, the number was gone. DAMN YOU ALCOHOL!!! DAMN YOU!!!”
“Yes, I got the number, and then I got too nervous, and never called...even though I was dying to call.”
“Sure, when I was shy back in the day, I just couldn't do it the next day.”
