Our dog has been taking more and more advantage of my wife's and my good natured generosity. He now whines at 6:45 a.m. and if we ignore him, and hears the slightest sign of wakefulness - change in breathing, an arm flung over a blanket, a murmured "g'mornin' - he takes it as a sign to leap up on the bed, all 60 pounds of him landing on our chests or legs, nuzzle us as strongly as he can, push his head under our pillows and then drag the covers off us if we tell him to go away. Sounds familiar!! Our dog has also started to take advantage! She knows that if she barks and howls for long enough (we worry about the neighbours) she'll either get let in or get a bone! She definitely needs some re-training! We've actually made the mistake of letting her sleep in the bedroom with us..... so she takes even more liberties!! Reply...

Gotta love 'em though. Our children are grown and out of the home and years ago I told my wife if she ever caught me talking to the pets like they were humans she should take me out and shoot me.

          Guess what?

Well we don't have children yet - want them, but for one reason or another haven't been able to - and she has become like our child. We didn't set out for it to be that way, but she's just so loveable and I guess my maternal instincts have to go somewhere!! I suppose I should have suspected it was going to go that direction when she was a puppy and we were going to a family function at my parents........ we had to take her with us as she was still a small puppy and we didn't want to leave her alone, and I had this bag full of 'stuff' for her. My mum said 'Did I miss something? When did you have a baby?' - it really was as though we had a baby with all the junk we had to carry for her!!! We don't take her with us places now, but we do have to go home fairly early as we have to get home to her!! One time we knew we were going to be late - we put her into a boarding kennel overnight!! The only problem with us giving her so much attention is that she's learnt to take advantage of it - and has become a huge SOOK!! At the moment she is jumping at the back door wanting to be let in - one because she wants to be in with us, and 2 because it's raining outside and she doesn't want to get wet. She has a dog house..... she just won't use it!!! But you love them to death - no matter what troubles they put you through...... hehe Reply...
