Myspace might have some competition here in the new future. Other sites are looking to compete for that ad revenue and one of the ways they're doing it is by paying people for submitting content.
You're all familiar with Spongefish. While they don't pay everyone outright; they have numerous contests in specific categories and the Big Fish/Sponge contest where everyone enters just by participating.
Another new site out there is Yuwie. They pay you based on the number of hits you get for any of your content. They also have a referral system, where you get paid based on the number of hits people that you refer get as well. You're probably not going to get rich through this site, but if you're going to play around on the internet, you might as well get paid. Actually, if Myspace paid on the same scale they did, I'd have made about $7,000. Even if it's only $7, an unexpected check is always a nice surprise. The main drawback to Yuwie is the lack of video uploading, but that is expected to be added in the near future. For more info on Yuwie, JUST CLICK HERE .
Youtube is looking to make their site into more of a social network as
well. However, they've got some competition as well. Break.com
already pays people for content that they feature and Metacafe has
been paying on popular videos through ad placement for awhile now.
Sure, Myspace and Facebook are king.....for now, but how long can they compete when other sites are starting to pay or reward their users? As more and more of these paying sites pop up, the existing ones are going to have to change or risk losing their positions at the top.
Whether they like it or not, the future means paying your contributors. It's definitely a future I could learn to like.
