I actually did this project last week and it worked wonderfully. Lots and lots of fun if you like to tinker and are into virtual reality. By the way, you can find all of Johnny Chung Lee's Wiimote Projects and the software and instructions to use them, at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/. Check them out, lots of genius ideas.
