Figured I'd post these today as they're both pretty interesting. The first is Retrospect, created by Kraton. It's an arcade space shooter which features an online high score board, so you can try and beat your friends or something!
Comments from the author: Retrospect is retro stylish arcade
space shooter with online highscores and much more. Game is generally
Geometry Wars ripoff with unique enemies and actions. Game was
submitted to the Clickteam's Vitalize Game making competition and so
you can play it at madword or just download stand alone.

The next download is more than just a game. It's another submission from Steve Harris, and it goes by the name of Bernard & Hank: Chickener. It's a tutorial which teaches you how to create a frogger clone using MMF2 - great for anybody new to the tools.
Comments from the author: Ever wanted to create your own
game? How about a frogger clone? This tutorial will show you how it's
done from start through to finish, with 36 pages of detailed
instructions helping you every step of the way. Included within the
download is the full game which also has a built-in highscore system
(not available in the tutorial).

Steve Harris has released a nice looking game, which is a mini-game from the upcoming and highly anticipated Turning The Tide, called Those Pesky Parachutists. The aim of the game is to simply defend a ship from attacking paratroopers.
Comments from the author: HMS Big Ears is under attack! Enemy
planes are dropping off paratroopers to take over the ship. All that's
left is you and a handful of men. Defend the ship for as long as you
can. Good luck soldier!
Those Pesky Parachutists is a mini-game from the upcoming Turning The
Tide PC game. If you like this, keep an eye on www.turningthetide.info
for the release date.

| Worry
not! Due to the fairly high number of entries we recieved, the judges
are doing their judge-y type things and evaluating each entry
thoroughly.
The results should be up around mid-February.
IMPORTANT: Would all competition entrants please submit a public
download link to their game to ME by DC-Mail? A public download link
being a URL that you're happy for other people to see containing your

Well the winner of this week's game of the week competition is Jimbob, who won with 25 votes. His game Hickory is a platformer with some very nice graphics - try it out! Congratulations to Jimbob for winning another GOTW competition!

We have a few games this week. I was sort of on the edge about whether
or not I should include The Almighty Paintbrush - anyway I decided not
to include it eventually (as it's a level editor which I'm guessing
will be released with the final version of The Underside). Anyway, here
are this week's entries:
Cryn the Dark Reflection , Wizard Wing , Gappy 2 (Winter Competition entry) , Turbo Wade , Tarmak 2: Rise of the Arcades
Well last week a few of you were complaining because we allowed some
engines into the GOTW. I'd just like to point out that we've allowed
engines into the poll for a long time, and we will continue to do so
unless the rules/criteria are changed. If you think the criteria for
GOTW should be changed then feel free to start a thread about it in the
forum where everyone can discuss it (as long as it's not a
threatening/aggressive thread that is..). A few of you have been saying
that it's unfair that user's don't get to give opinions on rule changes
and such - but we always try to listen to your opinions of stuff such
as this and we appreciate if you guys try contributing to such things. |

Hey, it's me again. The last time I did one of these was in September
2007. It really doesn't seem that long ago, but apparently it was.
Anyway I hope to be bringing this thing back so that you can have the
latest weekly news, every week in one easy-to-read segment! Here we
go..
Mark Pay has released a nice looking video of the upcoming The Spirit Engine 2.
It shows a battle between the player's characters and a few enemies.
The battle actually lasts over three minutes, and it looks like a lot
of fun (and quite challenging too). Click here to watch the new video
Fellow DC admin Chris Street has joined the Acoders
team. I'm not quite sure what this means for Euphoric Rush, but he's
definitely still working on Mr Stump's Dentures 2. Nice to see him
apart of a great team such as Acoders though, and I'm sure he'll be a
great member for them. Click here to read Chris' first post at the Acoders website
Johan Hargne of Crobasoft has just released a new game called The Yore.
I remember seeing the engine for this here, however the game itself
does not appear to have been submitted (hence why I'm telling you about
it now!). It's an adventure/puzzle game and it certainly has a unique
and creepy feeling to it - definitely worth checking out. Click here to visit Crobasoft and download this game
A brand new community site is here! It's called Fusion2Developers and I believe it was brought to us by Kisguri
of Gamesare. The interesting thing about this site is that it appears
to be catering those people who want to develop professional and
commercial games with MMF. Check it out and register! Click here to visit Fusion2Developers
BrandonC has announced that Arcane Tale has been
reinstated and now uses hardware acceleration. If you don't know what
Arcane Tale is, then it's a very nice looking online RPG/platform game.
Brandon has also posted some very nice looking screenshots on his
project page. Now I have another game to add to my 'most-anticipated
games' list. Click here to visit the Arcane Tale project page
That's pretty much all I have for this week. If you think there is something I've missed off, click here
to send me a message and I'll add it to the post. You can also message
me if there is something you think deserves to be posted in next week's
post.

Now this is something great and very impressing. ThePodunkian
released a level editor for his upcoming Underside game. You may just
never leave your computer again after downloading this folks.
Comments from the author:The
Almighty Paintbrush is a mod and level editor for my work in progress
game, The Underside. With it, you can create your own stories, levels,
or even mini-mods that replace sound effects/music/graphics. The
Almighty Paintbrush comes with the original TU game preview that was
released awhile ago, as well as two short mini-mods that are provided
as examples of how to do things with the engine. The included preview
contains the same 2-5% of the game that was released for the older
preview, though some of the dialogue has been changed. Click here to download the Editor and read its reviews.
Oh and Ps. I put up a new poll today called Do you think you will still visit the site in 5 years from now? Let us know:) |

Lots of great games coming in folks. Including a new game created by Fadex Its a new fun game created for the winter compo, and now you can check it out!
Comments from the author:My Winter
Competition '08 entry. It's a sequal of my old game. This game is a
sort of Lemmings clone. You're an elf named Gappy. You must deliver a
gift to the Santa Claus, but it's not as simple as you probably think.
You have 10 items, that you can put on the screen. Gappy will follow
your signs. He must collect every diamond on the screen and go to the
exit. You have to beat 30 difficult levels. You will visit places, such
as hills, forest, and ice cave. Click here to download the game and read its reviews.
Also be sure to check out Turbo Wade. And The Turrican click Demo. And if you are into RPG's why not give Cryn the Dark Reflection. A try. |

Just like that 8do gives us a great action game. With classic game-play and graphics you will have a hard time to stop playing this one.

2: Rise of the Arcades The ultimate experience in vintage geek
pixel-art cyberpunk adventure. Take control of the arcades gang and
start a turf war to win back your reputation and control over the
Westside. From the shit filled sewers to the lurury offices of big
corporations. From the wrecks of the caryard to the chicks of the
city's hottest nightclub. You'll have to roam the streets and alleys of
the metroplex and the most remote corners of the matrix to silence the
"opposition" and get your rep' back. So, grab a weapon. A broken bottle
or a good old colt. Buy as much drug as your pockets can handle. Round
up your gang and strike your enemies quick and hard. Click here to download the game and read its reviews.

Can't believe i missed this one last week. Jimbob
presents the ultimate mousey game. The game is just lots of fun with
some great attention to detail being spend on the game, its a winner,
go check it out.
Comments from the author:Unfortunately,
Hickory can also get squished by the many moving platforms, the pointy
screws that are lying around, the switch blocks and the other
inhabitants of the clock: the toy soldiers and the fine cuckoo.
Fortunately, however, it all works like clockwork, and there are
various switches around that can change the direction the clock moves
or move certain blocks away. Some jumps need to be timed with one eye
on where the second hand lies. Click here to download the game and read its reviews.
