Open Letter to Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono: You cannot allow Congress to become subservient to the executive branch. You must exert your oversight authority and force administration officials to testify.
One of the three articles of impeachment ultimately brought against President Richard Nixon was based on his refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas; Congress ought to threaten Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney with this if he does not compel his administration officials (employees of every tax-paying citizen) to testify.
Are you more cowardly and craven than the Congress which stood up to Richard Nixon?
Nancy Pelosi has said impeachment would "interfere with the important work Congress needs to do". Huh. By any honest evaluation, you have done virtually nothing of real value to every-day Americans in this session of Congress...and what, I ask you, could be more more important than upholding the rule of law and restoring the Constitutional system of checks and balances?
Are you cowardly, co-opted or complicit in the Bush Administration's numerous crimes? Are we a nation of laws, or a nation of men--some held to the law, others allowed to flout them? You must, if you are true to your oath of office, compel testimony of Bush Administration officials.
