An ectopic (tubal) pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg is implanted outside the uterus wall. Amazingly, in 2 percent of pregnancies, this pregnancy type happens. In common circumstances, the egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube and makes its way to the uterus to be attached, and become a baby. Several different reasons for a tubal pregnancy can be found.Most circumstances of this kind of pregnancy happen because a woman’s fallopian tubes are partially blocked. <o:p> </o:p>In some circumstances, the fertilized egg will go through the uterus and become stuck to the cervix or the abdominal wall. It is possible for a woman to have a standard pregnancy and a tubal pregnancy at the same time. If the egg does not attach within the uterus, it is always named an ectopic pregnancy. <o:p> </o:p>The realisitic truth is that the end result of any ectopic pregnancy is termination of the pregnancy. Serious damage to the fallopian tube can result where a pregnancy of this kind is not terminated early enough. If the pregnancy is in an early enough stage, it can be terminated with the drug, methotrexate. In circumstances where the pregnancy is already in the later stages, surgery is needed to repair damage and terminate the pregnancy. <o:p> </o:p>A tubal pregnancy is significantly more likely where a mother to be has already had a tubal ligation but is still pregnant. Other causes of this pregnancy may occur include previous fertility treatments, surgery on the fallopian tubes previously, abdominal operations, ovarian cysts that have been removed, and finally the use of the IUD contraceptive.  Women who have had an ectopic pregnancy have an 80%-90% chance of being able to have a regular pregnancy in the future. Understandably, physicians closely monitor pregnancies that happen after a tubal pregnancy.  The signals of an ectopic pregnancy tend to show up around six to seven weeks into the pregnancy. This is often the same time as the signs of pregnancy are usually seen. Home pregnancy tests, in some cases, may not actually show a positive result when a tubal pregnancy occurs. For this reason, the onset of complications is what usually alerts a mother to be to an ectopic pregnancy. <o:p> </o:p>Pain and tenderness in the abdomen are usually the first signs of problems. In most circumstances, the pain occurs on one side rather than the other but is not contained to one area. Irregular bleeding in the vaginal area and pain when using the toilet or coughing are other common symptoms. If the pain moves to the shoulder area, the tube may have broken. <o:p> </o:p>Terminating a tubal pregnancy is the only way to save women affected by this kind of unfortunate pregnancy. A high percentage of people feel that abortion is wrong. The choice is very simple in these cases. Let the mother live or lose both the child and mother.
